All State 2009-10
 
Students who will be auditioning for the Region, Area, and All-State choirs should read the FAQ information to the left and go to Pender's Music Company in Denton to purchase a packet of music.  Please make plans to attend a summer camp.  
 
The next summer practice session will be Tuesday July 7th at 2PM in the choir room.
 

 
Chorale Summer Practice
 
Members of the varsity mixed choir Chorale should download the summer practice tracks to the left and begin working on music for the Fall Concert.  There will be a video test when we return to school in the Fall.
 

 
State Solo & Ensemble
 
Six choir students earned medals for solo singing at the UIL State S&E contest on the campus of UT Austin. 
 
Earning a first division medal was Junior Emily Mathis. 
 
Earning second division medals were Seniors Kacie Carpenter and Robbie Evans, Junior Lydia Taylor, and Freshmen Bryan Pindea and Annie Krhovajak.

UIL rating of 1 is Superior and a 2 is Excellent.  If a choir earns an average score of Superior in both stage and sightreading the group is awarded a Sweepstakes recognition. Out of 42 high school choirs that attended the contest, eighteen sweepstakes were given. 
 

 
SOLO AND ENSEMBLE RESULTS

Congratulations to Junior Emily Mathis for earning All-State choir honors in audition at Abilene HS on January 10th.  Emily will attend the TMEA music convention in February and sing with the All-State Treble Chorus.

RAIDERS MAKE NATIONAL HONOR CHOIRS
 

Congratulations to Juniors Tori Brownlee, Lydia Taylor, Emily Mathis, Maggie Beutner, and Senior Robbie Evans on their selection to the American Choral Directors Association's 2009 National Senior High School Honor Choir and to Freshman Meghan Kajihara on her selection to the ACDA 2009 National Junior High School Honor Choir.  These students are invited to attend the ACDA National Convention in Oklahoma City in March, rehearse with distinguished conductors and perform for the convention's attendees in concert with dedicated and talented singers from across the country.

"BATTLE OF THE NOTE" '08
 
May 15th 2008 on the turf practice field at RHS, the Raider Choirs hosted the 2nd annual "Battle of the Note" flag football game.  This year, four choir programs participated including: Denton High, Guyer, and Decatur.   In the first round the Raiders defeated Denton High by the score of 21 - 16.  In the championship game the Ryan Raiders won 27 - 18  over the Decatur Eagles.

PADRE TRIP '08
 
The Ryan Mixed choir received at Superior rating from all three judges and was named "Best in Class" at the Gulf Coast Music Festival.  Congrats to the singers!

VOICE LESSON SIGN-UP
 

Students that are interested in taking voice at RHS should take home the  "Voice Lessons" contract and have it signed by your parents.  Bring your signed form and a check for the your first lesson ($15) and we will hold a spot for you in the voice studio.  Please make checks to Denton ISD.  Our voice teachers are Gwynne Johnson  milesandgwynne@hotmail.com and Laurie Spohn lauriesings@illinoisalumni.org 

 


 

BATTLE OF THE NOTE '07

 

The DHS and RHS choir played the inaugural "Battle of the Note" flag football game at Bronco Field at DHS on May 3rd 2007.  The Raiders were victorious by the score of 64-13.

The Ryan Raider Choir Department had a wonderful tour of Ireland in Spring 2007.    Nothing expands your mind and shrinks the world like international travel.  What an experience!
